Books by Rebecca Lowe

Welcome to my Publications page

When I'm not writing for my job, I'm conjuring words into poems and songs, and inspiring others to find their voice at creative workshops and spoken word events.

If you have a book you've written, I can also help you publish and promote it. Email me at swanmedia@ntlworld.com to find out more.

Here's a selection of my publications. My work is also in many anthologies and I'm always working on lots of projects. Watch this space for more!

Write Mindfully

Have you ever felt the urge to create but didn't really know where to start?
Or perhaps you've been creative for a long time but felt afraid to show anyone your work, for fear of being judged?
If you've ever been held back by fear of criticism, told yourself you weren't a 'real' artist, or felt confined to the edges of the world's dancefloor, this book is written for you.

I want to help you find and listen to your inner voice - your Soul Voice, if you like. Once you can do that, you'll find that writing comes naturally to you - as naturally as breathing.

Topics covered include:

Mindfulness and creativity
Dealing with imposter syndrome
What causes writer's block?
What makes a person creative?
How can I find my creative flow?
What is inspiration?
Storytelling and imagination
Dealing with rejection
Sense writing

Write Mindfully is available from Amazon, priced £9.99. Kindle version £5.02.

‘Exuberant, imaginative, honest, spiritually generous.'

Rhoda Thomas, Live Poets.

Blood and Water

My first poetry collection, published by The Seventh Quarry in 2020 takes in themes of motherhood, identity and belonging. The title poem, Blood and Water, is a reflection upon the experience of becoming a mother - of finding a new identity and adapting to a new role in the midst of the emotional chaos that comes with looking after a new baby. Other poems take their inspiration from folktales and Celtic mythology. Blood and Water was longlisted for Wales Book of the Year and contains my prize-winning poem Tick, Tick. which won the Bread and Roses Spoken Word Performance award in 2020.

Blood and Water is available from The Seventh Quarry, priced £6.99.

‘What struck me first and foremost with Rebecca’s poetry is how relatable it is. With strong themes of growth and the harsh realities of life, this collection is both timely and (perhaps surprisingly) hopeful. There is despair and sadness in certain places, and yet never without the suggestion that the possibility of change exists. Quite often, one will be confronted with a dual meaning, always presented through the most beautiful image. As a result there is always something to leave one wondering.’

Our Father Eclipse

Stop.

Freezeframe here.

This...could be your future.

The sky unfurls a blank

scroll every morning'...

Our Father Eclipse is a pseudo-apocalyptic, eco-socialist dystopian vision of the world. Framed amid the realities of global pandemic and climate emergency, it speaks to a post-truth political era where neoliberal capitalism is clearly and dramatically failing.

Dark, yet edged with hope, it contains questions of faith, belief and truth at its heart. Visionary and observational by turns, it is both unsettling and provocative, full of radical passion and revolutionary compassion.'

Our Father Eclipse was Published by Culture Matters, 2021. Priced £10.

‘Rebecca Lowe emerges as a tour de force with this collection. It has a scholarly feel, but is not a difficult book to read. A very strong collection.’

Grandmasaurus

Have you ever met a knitting dinosaur? Or dreamed of starting a Nit Circus? Or eaten the very last biscuit in the packet and blamed it on invisible bears? If so, this book is for you!

If not, don’t worry…this book is for you too! A rip-roaring collection of curly-wurly, squishy swirly poems, just waiting to get out of this book and into your head. I’d watch it, if I were you…

Grandmasaurus is a book of poems for children of all ages and silly adults. Co-written with my daughter during lockdown, it is designed to be read aloud and is intended to be a fun introduction to poetry for all ages,

For schools, youth clubs and educational settings, I can provide poetry performances (with some songs)  based on the book. I also have a series of Classroom Activities which teachers can take and use for ready-made lesson plans.

'It made me laugh and I really liked the one about Imelda Millipede and all her shoes!' - Jessica, aged 8.

New titles and anthologies

Ten Faces of the Virgin

A short chapbook of ten ekphrastic poems, each responding to a different visual representation of the Virgin Mary. As the paintings vary in style, so do the poems - from the delicacy of Botticelli's Madonna of the Book to the challenging the confrontational representation of Chris Ofili's The Holy Virgin Mary. The poems reflect my immediate artistic responses to the pictures, as well as drawing upon my own experiences.

A470 poems for the road

A bilingual English-Welsh poetry anthology released on St David’s Day by independent London-based publisher Arachne Press

A470: Poems for the Road / Cerddi’r Ffordd is a collection of original poems by Welsh poets, all written in response to the 186-mile road which runs the length of Wales, north to south and east to west.

My poem is a whimsical reimagining of what the A470 would say to us if it could speak.

Poems for the end of the world

What would the end of the world look like?

In a time which feels increasingly dystopian, Fin Hall has compiled a collection of fresh and exciting poems examining the very nature of time itself. The collection includes poetry from writers around the world, who offer a unique range of perspectives.

My own poem 'Winter Wonderland' reflects upon commerce and reality.

Land of Change

Land of Change: Stories of Struggle & Solidarity from Wales is a groundbreaking publication in contemporary Welsh literature, edited by Swansea writer and activist Gemma June Howell.
This collection from 39 contributors including essays, stories, speeches, photographs and artwork showcases the work of some of Wales' most diverse and talented artists, offers a vibrant portrait of the country's literary and cultural landscape.

UPCOMING TITLES: Peaceweavers Anthology

Peaceweavers – Peacemakers, peace activists and radical advocates for justice.

Is a peaceful world achievable? Are war and conflict an inevitable part of human nature – or are there realistic peaceful and non-violent alternatives?

Without justice, there is no peace, and it is by tackling the many causes of social injustice and inequalities that a stable, peaceful society and world can be achieved.

Peaceweavers is a celebration - in essays, poetry and artwork - of those actively working for peace, whether at a personal, local or global level.
